A Well Kept Secret (Okay, Not Really)!

Vendor Booth Information |

The girls at Pop & Gran's Antiques and More offer highly unusual, one-of-a-kind stained glass and wire art decorative pieces. They are appropriately referred to as "sunsnatchers" because that is what they do best - snatch the sun rays right out of a window or room and refract it all over in colorful blasts of light. |

All three of us have a passion for the unusual and we LOVE discovering ways to recycle old, obsolete items. The culmination of our craft has evolved from the very first attempt to make something fun and decorative from salvaged items!
From the beginning (from "just got our driver's license" to years later, realizing this could be more than just goofing off!) - our favorite past time has been driving the back roads looking for that "ultimate treasure"! Plus, it was just fun getting out of the city and cruising in the country.
One day while on an adventure, I discovered an old stained glass window damaged beyond repair; bullet holes and rocks had sealed the fate - not to mention the wood frame was termite infested. We looked at that piece and I said, what the heck, I'll do something with it.
A little farther down the road we discovered a yard sale. Bags and bags of buttons, damaged costume jewelry; and SCORE!
The next thing I know, there I am back at home with these things scattered across my kitchen table. Hmmm? Need I say more?
Nita specializes in western-style wire art. Windmills, cowgirl (and cowboy too) boots, fancy State of Texas sunsnatchers, horses and more. Basically whatever the whim of the day; that's what we design right here in our own studio (which doubles as a kitchen).
Carla - well she's just wild. You never know what that girl is going to come up with. She can't hardly sell anything, because most of what Carla creates I steal and bring home with me to hang on my patio or in a special place in my house. Carla has a great eye for cutting edge eclectic items. "Too Much Time On My Hand" is one of her signature pieces. Her flowers cannot be duplicated. Each one is uniquely beautiful - each one completely different from anything else she's made. I love to tease Carla - I'll say what the heck is that? And she'll say, "can't you tell?" And I'll say nooooo! Then of course, I'm treated to her sigh of exasperation.
Drives her nuts - but hey, I'm her little sister; it's my job to drive her nuts.
And I? I love to make crosses using antique harness buckles, bridles and tack that have long out-lived their usefulness. My favorite places to shop are 100 year old barns filled with items that the old rancher didn't want to throw away, but that the family has no clue what to do with. Tractor parts, plow discs and things like that draw me like a magnet every time! I enjoy doing whimsical fish, roosters and hummingbirds. One of my signature items is a dragon fly - I can't seem to keep those guys in stock! I also do stained glass purses decorated with recyled costume jewelry aptly name for an old friend who always loved a beautiful purse - Marcellete. I've made several penguins on special order. I enjoy working a lot of beads into my projects.
We do on occasion accept special orders, but be advised we have a terrible "on-time" rate! We are about a year behind on special requests. Nita has crafted B-52 Bombers to hang in a window and spin with the wind. She's made red-hot chile peppers, cattle brands, fire trucks, texas longhorns, ladybugs and butterflies.
Come by and enjoy our colorful, quirky objects of delight - looking is always free! But please be advised: our store hours are very nebulous! Shop appointment, or by chance. If the grandbabies are visiting, the fish are biting, or the cows are out - we don't show up to open our shop! Call us - we'll be glad to make arrangements for you to visit. |
